The following is a list of special collections which include material relating to health and hospitals, with the codes that can be used in an advanced search for 'collection' in NUsearch. In each case, there is a link to the catalogue entry on Manuscripts and Special Collections' online catalogue, which gives more details about the scope of the collection, and guidance on how to browse and search for items in the particular collection: Yes, if NPALS was chosen as the collection point and the group has been notified that the set is ready. Can I collect from any library? If you find you are retrieving a number of false hits, you can narrow your search down by using the other search options. For instance, type your required search term into the 'AnyText' box, and also type 'Uhc' into the 'Document Reference' box. If you are able to log in to NUsearch (University of Nottingham staff and students and library card holders), you can use NUsearch to make online bookings to view Special Collection items in the Manuscripts and Special Collections Reading Room.

General descriptions of the scope of each Special Collection are also given on the Manuscripts Online Catalogue . NPALS reserves the right to make changes to these terms and conditions from time to time as it sees fit. Please note that some collections have had extensive additional cataloguing undertaken through externally funded projects, and that in these cases the original typescript lists have now been very considerably enhanced. In all cases it is advisable to consult the upgraded versions in the Manuscripts Online Catalogue . Reference copies of each title are available to browse at Radford-Lenton Library. It is the responsibility of the borrower to consider the relevant amount of time for which to request a loan if items are being delivered to another library (please see clause 2.2). Personal information for registered groups will only be used to inform groups about their accounts and only for the purpose of enabling NPALS to provide and develop its service to borrowers. Some of our manuscripts catalogues can be searched online alongside catalogues from other archive institutions. Please note that the catalogues were submitted at the time of the project, and the version in our own Manuscripts Online Cataloguemay be more up to date. If ILL sets are cancelled after having been received at NPALS, the charge for the whole loan period will be incurred by the group. Item descriptions can be retrieved by searching for the collection's reference number. For instance, in the Advanced Search in the Manuscripts Online Catalogue, type 'Uhg' into the 'Document Ref' field to retrieve all records from the Nottingham General Hospital collection. Searches can also be narrowed down by date. Type your required search term into 'AnyText', and also type the exact year, or a range of years, into the 'Date' field. You can even combine this with a 'Document Reference' search to target the search still further. By selecting the 'Place Search' form you can search all of the place name authorities included within the system. Therefore, if you wish to know more about events in a particular place, you could access information by entering the place name in the 'CityTownVillage' field. This will retrieve the name authority term for that place, and will enable you to link to every catalogue record containing information about the place. Some manuscript collections have been catalogued in detail, giving descriptions of each individual item or bundle. These descriptions are available as part of the Manuscripts Online Catalogue . Not every collection has been catalogued to item level. Any sets or part sets outstanding 14 days after the due date will be charged a daily overdue fee of 50p per title, in the 14 days following this. Until notified, lost or missing copies will be identified as outstanding loans. Any lost or missing parts should be replaced by the group with an identical edition in good condition. The award winning Nottingham Performing Arts Library Service (NPALS) lends multiple copies of plays, vocal scores and orchestral sets to organisations across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derby City as well as directly to groups around the UK. The collection comprises over 24,000 drama copies, 85,000 Vocal scores and 1,300 orchestral sets. You will also be able to conduct a subject search of descriptions contained within the catalogue, by putting a search term in the 'Term' box of the standard Advanced Search.
