About this deal

The limited series was published monthly until 2015 by DC/Vertigo, with Spencer teaming up with four different illustrators. The officers are all investigating the murder of one unidentified male, found naked on a London street, killed by a single bullet to the eye but, mysteriously there’s no exit wound. What we knew was it would be a disservice to our audience if they were going to invest eight hours of their time, not to solve this," he added. The title is not descriptive. Well, there ARE four bodies, but this is about ideas, not bodies. Murdered bodies, okay, but it's what gets these bodies murdered that the book is about. If it's REALLY about bodies in some metaphysical sense, then it is too esoterically configured here.

I actually thought I had something good in my hands....not a bad start and could`ve been good to the end but....it was not long until I hated it :( A body is found in four distinct points in our timeline. What's strange about them is that they all present the same wounds and are in the same position. Each investigator handles the case with the available technology and methods of the day. The story inches ever closer to what seems to be a conspiracy. Bodies is available on Netflix now. I learned a lot, as usual, from him.Stephen Graham’s 2023 thriller Bodies has just dropped on Netflix, following four detectives Hasan (Amaka Oskafor), Whiteman (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd), Hillinghead (Kyle Soller) and Maplewood (Shira Haas) with an unusual case. The four detectives could be classed as “outsiders”, ie. the non-traditional standard as opposed to the stereotypically “normal” British types: a gay man, a Jewish man, a Muslim woman, a mentally-ill young woman. But they’re all British - they are Britain, and they make up our country as much as any Anglo-Saxon straight person. Each is a strand of DNA in the national body. He knew a lot of people. Simon was friendly and approachable – and he was very supportive of other artists and writers. I know he was a mentor figure for some up-and-coming artists. He was well-known for being very inventive with his writing.” At its core, it is a story about love and compassion, and about (author's) patriotism and love for England.

Si Spencer, as Netflix’s Bodies dedicates first Who is Si Spencer, as Netflix’s Bodies dedicates first

For me, it was not a one star read, definitely not the worst I've read, but also definitely not as good as I had anticipated based on the cover. Right, first of all, I don't recall ever having read a graphic novel before and know almost nothing about the form, so forgive me if I review Si Spencer's Bodies (originally released in eight episodes but now brought together in a single volume) in completely the wrong way: the last book I read that had speech bubbles was probably a Monster Fun annual so essentially I have no other graphic novels as a reference point. Hellblazer: City of Demons (with Sean Murphy, five-issue limited series, Vertigo, December 2010 – February 2011, tpb, May 2011, ISBN 1-4012-3153-5) Bodies was undoubtedly a slam dunk from Netflix who managed to hook viewers into this Sci-Fi crime thriller series that was slightly mind-boggling but ultimately a fantastic eight-episode limited series. In the final moments of the show, fans were delighted to see that the detectives on the case from four different times were able to successfully work together to close the time loop. In June 2014, Vertigo published the first issue of his creator-owned monthly eight issue limited series Bodies. I think the double H could be a reference to double helix which is the term given to double-stranded molecules like DNA. This ties into our bodies but also the main theme of the book: what makes up our national character. I should say this is a very British comic as Spencer seems to be focusing specifically on multiculturalism and cultural identity in Britain through his characters.

Netflix has just released a new hotly anticipated drama starring Stephen Graham. Bodies is set across four time periods, and the first episode of the show is dedicated to man called Si Spencer. Four detectives, four different eras, one murder victim, same MO, same location - appearing to each detective. Who killed John Bull?

Ambitious, tense, explosive: this genre-blurring whodunnit travels time to visit four detectives investigating the same murder – in different eras. It’s exceptionally good value.”– The Guardian So essentially what that means is that the detectives did in fact successfully close the time loop and stopped the bomb killing people in London, but the producers wanted to leave a slight foot in the door in case they wanted to make a second season. The takeaway (and spoiler): The dead, grizzly corpse (aka John Bull) loves all merry old Englanders, whether they be gay, straight, Jewish, Muslim or a loon. Good to know and yay! Si Spencer was a British TV dramatist and graphic novelist. His TV credits include Eastenders, The Bill and Grange Hill.

Bodies by Si Spencer | Waterstones

Bodies on Netflix is based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, with the same name. The comic was released in 2015, and Si Spencer teamed up with four different illustrators, each of which gave each time frame its unique feel. As well as his work as an author, Si was also a scriptwriter, and during his career worked on shows such as Grange Hill, EastEnders and The Bill. It has a great and intriguing concept, solid writing, beautiful artist collaboration (four different artists drawing each their separate story from different time periods in London: 1890, 1940, 2014-15 and some weird future), each artist doing great job. But most of all this story has heart. In 2022, Netflix announced that a series based on Spencer's Vertigo series Bodies had been greenlit, with Moonage Pictures producing. [5] The series Bodies consisted of eight episodes and premiered on Netflix on 19 October 2023. [6] Bibliography [ edit ] There's a new drama to add to your weekend 'must-watch' list, in the shape of Netflix's Bodies: But who is Si Spencer, who the first episode is dedicated to?Si Spencer (1961 – 16 February 2021) [1] [2] was a British comic book writer and TV dramatist and editor whose work appeared in British comics such as Crisis. He often collaborated with Dean Ormston and later moved to the American comics industry. A very ambitious book with a sort of patriotic message for and about Olde England (and the wider world): Stay tolerant and as you always have been--richly multicultural. That part of it is a tad preachy, though it's a message of tolerance I happen to agree with, in the debate about immigration everywhere. I was intrigued by the basic outline of this series -- four detectives in four different timelines all investigating the same murder (ie, the same body with the same wounds discovered in the same part of London's East End). The four settings (1890, 1940, 2014, 2050) are each rendered by different artists with distinctively different styles, but in each case, the detective is an outsider.
